Infusions

Since 1999 Carolina Arthritis has provided infusion therapy services for patients with a variety of types of arthritis and also osteoporosis.

Medication given intravenously by a dedicated staff of registered nurses is referred to as infusion therapy.

Rheumatologists have been using infusion therapy since the late 1990s. Biologic therapies are medications that are too large to be taken orally and must be given either by injection or intravenously. Biologic therapy has truly been life-changing especially for patients with inflammatory types of arthritis. In addition, treatments for osteoporosis can be given intravenously to avoid side effects from oral medications and also for convenience.

Our infusion suite is located conveniently in our office. For your comfort during your infusion we have recliners, TVs, high-speed Internet access, and snacks. Our RNs have years of experience giving IV medications and a rheumatologist is always available on site in the rare case of an infusion reaction. Infusion times will vary depending on the medication you will be receiving and you could be finished in as little as 15-30 min. or some infusions may last as long as 4-5 hours.

Carolina Arthritis has been a national leader in the field of infusion therapy since its inception. In addition Carolina Arthritis has participated in multiple clinical trials over the years investigating new biologic medications. Biologic therapies target specific chemicals involved in the inflammatory process in immune system mediated diseases. Specific diseases treated with IV biologic therapy at Carolina Arthritis include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis, lupus, vasculitis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Biologic therapies are important in getting control of your symptoms but also are extremely important in preventing long-term joint destruction, deformity and disability.
